“When I do people portraits, I start with the eyes. They’re the very best indicators of a person’s emotions. I look at their photograph, then I look at a blank canvas… and I just allow the eyes to emerge from behind the canvas and start drawing them. I don’t know any better way to explain the process. It’s kind of weird how it starts, actually.”
