Welcome to robynbryant.net

Robyn Bryant has been an artist, musician and animal lover for virtually her entire life. Born into an Alabama family of musicians and artists, her earliest memories are filled with rich images of the brilliant, natural beauty of the South, and the wondrous creatures that roamed there freely.

Robyn has loved drawing for as long as she can remember, and produced impressive portraits in lead, graphite and charcoal in her teens and early twenties. After attending Huntingdon College on a full scholarship in the School of Fine Arts, where she studied both flute performance and theatre, she obtained her B.A. in 1982. She then began a career in the healing arts, effectively “tucking away” her love for drawing. There would be no new drawings for 20 years.

In 2006, someone remembered Robyn’s drawings from “way back when,” and commissioned her to do her first artwork since the early 1980’s. The flood gates of an almost-forgotten passion opened: only this time, painting her drawings with watercolor and gauche added a captivating enhancement to her renderings. This led to one artistic discovery after another, resulting in an ever-evolving use of mixed mediums. Today, Robyn continues her custom portrait work of both people and animals, utilizing her experience in the healing arts to connect with and express the comprehensive energy of each subject.

"I draw my subjects before I paint them: it allows me time to “feel” them in a way that’s much deeper than just replicating what I see visually. I definitely need photographs as the reference for the painting’s structure, but I’ve found that a free-hand drawing of everything I take in from the photo results in a warmer, more intimate-feeling portrait.”
